How to join CPSA109
Welcome aboard! We are glad that you are interested in working in colored pencil, and we look forward to helping you reach your colored pencil goals. DC109/Metro Washington, D.C. welcomes members at all skill levels in colored pencil, and we’re all friendly, helpful and encouraging, always ready to share ideas, techniques, and solutions to issues we have encountered. Nearly all of our members reside in the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. area.
DC109 is one of the many district chapters that our non-profit parent organization, the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA), sponsors around the country. You must be a member of CPSA in order to be a district chapter member. If you have not yet joined CPSA, you can do so here. You may choose to join as many district chapters as you wish, as long as you are a member in good standing of CPSA. Dues to CPSA and dues to any district chapters you choose to join are all paid separately.
Once you’ve joined DC109, Blair Jackson, our chapter president, or Johanna Swart, our membership chair, will reach out to answer any questions you may have, and you can always find information about upcoming activities on this website or in our newsletter—we hope to meet you soon!
ANNUAL DUES TO THE METRO WASHINGTON DC DISTRICT CHAPTER 109:
$25 for one-year basic membership; this includes our chapter newsletter, published quarterly, information about all chapter meetings and activities, and participation in our chapter exhibitions in the Maryland, northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. area.
$35 for all of the above, plus up to 10 images of your colored pencil artwork included in our members’ gallery page on this website.
The CPSA membership year runs from November 1 until October 31, as does the DC109 membership year, and all dues are payable by October 31 each year.

About CPSA:
Founded in 1990 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of colored pencil art and artists, the international CPSA comprises a network of district chapters across the US, and numerous artists worldwide.
The Washington DC Area District Chapter 109, founded in 1994, is a supportive network of artists who participate in informative meetings and other activities. The chapter sponsors regional shows and has hosted the CPSA International Exhibition two times.

-
CPSA (the parent entity) is a registered nonprofit corporation—it provides the legal umbrella under which district chapters exist. Working on a broad scale, CPSA provides credibility for the entire organization and colored pencil artists, gains attention for colored pencil art in major art publications, sponsors conventions and exhibitions, conducts lightfastness testing, and encourages manufacturers to produce better products.
-
District chapters are a network of subsidiary entities around the U.S. operating under the umbrella of CPSA (the legal entity). Chapters represent and act as advocates of CPSA, advancing our organization’s mission and goals at the local level, and thereby extend the reach of CPSA—much like college houses of a fraternity.
